About Electrophysiology & Heart Rhythm
We are pleased to announce the opening of a new Electrophysiology (Heart Rhythm) Service within the Cardiology Department at Al ZahraHospital.
This service will be led by Dr Sahrkaw Azat Muhyaldeen Consultant Cardiologist specialised in Electrophysiology and Cardiac Device Therapy.
Dr Muhyaldeen trained and obtained full certification as a cardiac electrophysiologist in the United Kingdom, where he worked for many years as a consultant and treated thousands of patients with heart rhythm disorders.
What are heart rhythm disorders?
Heart rhythm disorders (arrhythmias) are very common—affecting approximately 1–5% of the population. They occur due to problems in the electrical system of the heart, and can cause symptoms such as:
• Palpitations (a feeling that the heart is racing, pounding or fluttering)
• Shortness of breath
• Chest discomfort or pain
• Dizziness or light-headedness
• Fainting or blackouts
• Fatigue and reduced exercise capacity
These conditions may be present from birth or develop later in life due to other illnesses. While many rhythm problems are benign and not dangerous, some can be serious and even life-threatening if untreated.
