Prof. Dr. Syed Arshad Husain is a senior Consultant Pulmonologist with over 35 years of experience in the field of respiratory and internal medicine, both in the National Health Services (NHS) UK and the Kings Hospital, in the UAE.
His career is marked by a dedication to clinical excellence, innovation in pulmonary diagnostics, and leadership in medical education and research

Before joining Al Zahra Hospital Dubai, Prof Husain served for three and a half years at King’s College Hospital London – Dubai, where he continued his longstanding commitment to patient-centered respiratory care. Prior to his move to the UAE, he held the position of Consultant Respiratory Physician at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust in the UK for 15 years.
Prof Dr Husain is certified Physician by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons in the UK and holds a Fellowship from the American College of Chest Physicians (FCCP). He completed his training in General Internal Medicine and Elderly Care from the Oxford region in 2002 and was awarded his Certificate of Specialist Training in Respiratory Medicine in 2005 from the South-West region.
He also completed advanced training in Interventional Bronchoscopy and Respiratory Medicine at the prestigious Royal Brompton Hospital in London, followed by a Fellowship in Medical Thoracoscopy and Interventional Bronchoscopy at the University of Lille, France.
Throughout his career, Dr. Husain has been at the forefront of innovative respiratory care. He played a key role in setting up advanced diagnostic services, including Endobronchial Ultrasound-Guided Transbronchial Needle Aspiration (EBUS-TBNA) with Rapid On-Site Evaluation (ROSE) – crucial for the diagnosis and staging of lung cancer, sarcoidosis, tuberculosis, and lymphoma.
He has also contributed extensively to postgraduate medical education, serving as a Training Program Director for the Kent, Surrey, and Sussex (KSS)Deanery in the UK and as an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at King’s College London. He has chaired specialist training committees and been involved with the Specialist Advisory Committee of the Royal College of Physicians in London.
Prof Husain is a frequent speaker and trainer in international workshops and courses, particularly in bronchoscopy, EBUS, thoracoscopy, thoracic ultrasound, and safe chest drain management.
Prof Husain is a keen researcher with academic contributions include numerous publications in international peer reviewed journals on topics such as asthma, cough, COPD, interventional procedures, ventilator-associated pneumonia, COVID-19, and airway stenting, with more than 200 citations of his research papers
